The ABCs of Teacher Self Care: An Introduction to Yoga and Mindfulness as a Support for Wellness in Education
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Pat Steely, M.Ed
Pat is a retired Special Education Teacher. She is the owner of Yoga for Kids, LLC and she offers classes to children at various locations. Pat also provides private yoga therapy in the home setting and multisensory yoga instruction to Adults with Developmental Disabilities. Prior to teaching special education, Pat cared for her family and worked part-time in the Mental Health Field. She is a certified ChildLight® Yoga Instructor and a former Yoga 4 Classrooms® Trainer. She has been practicing yoga since 1998. Meditation has always been a part of her life since being introduced to the Practice by her older brother when she was a teenager. She blends her knowledge of child development and mindfulness education in her work.
Pat practiced yoga daily with her students in her Emotional Support Classroom and saw firsthand the calming effects yoga postures, breathwork, self awareness, positive affirmations, and relaxation can have on children. She is thrilled to be able to introduce yoga and mindfulness practices directly to children in a fun and therapeutic manner. Pat believes children have an innate ability to live joyfully and wholly in the present moment and she views yoga as a wonderful tool to help children maintain that capacity for joyful living well into their adult lives.
When not on the mat or presenting at workshops, Pat can be found writing fun yoga lesson plans, volunteering, gardening, hiking, and backpacking along the Appalachian Trail.
